수컷 (남자) 별넓적꽃등에 등애 곤충 한마리입니다. 수컷 꽃등에들은 머리의 끝부분까지 건드는 복안 구조의 눈 (holoptic eye, 호로픽 아이)과, 이 종은 복부 부분에 암컷들과 다른 표시가 있어서 쉽게 구분이 됩니다. 이 종은 진딧물 (aphids)과 깍지벌레 (scale insects)를 실험적으로 제어하는 곳인 유럽에서 아주 쉽게 발견됩니다.

A male Eupeodes corollae hoverfly. Male hoverflies are easily recognized by the holoptic eyes, touching at the top of the head, and males of this species have different abdomen markings than females. This species is very common in Europe, where it has been used experimentally to control the population of aphids and other scale insects.
