미해군전함 아나폴리스(USS Annapolis) 호가 2009년 3월에 실시한 아이스 엑서사이즈 2009 에서 북극해의 3피트 얼음을 뚫고 표면에 나와 쉬고 있습니다. 2주간 펼쳐진 훈련에서 잠수함의 작전성능과 북극해의 환경속에서의 전투 능력을 시험하였는데, 미해군전함 헬레나(USS Helena) 와 워싱턴 대학교, 해군소속 북극해 잠수함 연구소(Navy Arctic Submarine Laboratory) 가 이 훈련에 함께했습니다.

USS Annapolis, resting in the Arctic Ocean after surfacing through three feet of ice during Ice Exercise 2009 in March 2009. The two-week training exercise was used to test submarine operability and war-fighting capability in Arctic conditions, and also involved the USS Helena, the University of Washington and personnel from the Navy Arctic Submarine Laboratory.
