Messier 8, commonly known as the Lagoon Nebula, is a Messier object within the Sagittarius constellation. Sagittarius, depicted as a centaur drawing a bow, lies between Scorpius to the west and Capricornus to the east. The Milky Way is at its densest as it passes through this constellation.
