1919 년 같은 제목으로 그려진 마슬레니차 축제는, Great Lent (동방 교회에서 기념하는 사순절) 이 시작하기 한 주전에 즐기는 축제 입니다. 이 그림은 축제 당시  러시아 볼 수 있는 광경들, 이를테면 겨울 눈, 트로이카(삼두 마차), 둥근 지붕을 가지고 있는 동방교회들을 잘 표현하고 있습니다. 10월 혁명 이후 그려진 이 그림의 목적은 훼손되지 않은 예전의 "성스러운 러시아"에 대한 작별이였습니다.

Maslenitsa, a 1919 painting depicting the carnival of the same name, which takes places the last week before Great Lent. The painting encompasses a broad range of things associated with Russia, such as snowy winter weather, a troika, an Orthodox church with onion domes. Painted in the aftermath of the October Revolution, the canvas was intended as a farewell to the unspoilt "Holy Russia" of yore.
