차일드 해롤드의 편력(Childe Harold's Pilgrimage) 의 1825년 판의 권두화로, 이 시는 로드 바이런(Lord Byron)이 쓴 장편 서술시입니다. 이 시는 삶의 즐거움과 쾌락에 환멸을 느끼고 세상을 등진 한 젊은이의 낯선 곳에서 찾는 즐거움에 대해 서술했습니다. 넓은 시각에서 보면, 후기-혁명사회와 나폴레옹 시대(Napoleonic eras) 에 지친 세대가 느낀 우울함과 환멸에 대한 표현입니다. 이 시는 1812년 출판되자 마자 꽤 인기가 있었습니다. 바이런 자신은 이걸보고 다음과 같이 말했습니다. The frontispiece to a c. 1825 edition of Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, a lengthy narrative poem by Lord Byron. The poem describes the travels and reflections of a world-weary young man who, disillusioned with a life of pleasure and revelry, looks for distraction in foreign lands. In a wider sense, it is an expression of the melancholy and disillusionment felt by a generation weary of the wars of the post-Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras. This poem proved to be quite popular upon its publication in 1812. Byron himself said of this, "I awoke one morning and found myself famous."
