The Egyptian Grasshopper (Anacridium aegyptium) is one of a dozen species that may be called a locust during its swarming phase. Common in southern Europe and around the Mediterranean, it is similar to the gregarious phase of the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria), but is clearly distinguished by the striped eyes and, unlike that species, causes little damage.
