그라니스미스 사과와 이를 반으로 가른 모습입니다. 이 품종은 1868년 호주에 사는 마리아 안 스미스가 자연교잡으로 전파된 것이 유래되어 그의 이름을 딴 재배변종입니다. 그래니스미스 사과는 아삭아삭하고, 새콤달콤하여 보통 요리용도로 사용하는데, 특별한 것은 다른 변종들처럼 갈변이 빨리 진행되지 않아 샐러드 용도로도 사용됩니다.

A Granny Smith apple and the cross-section of another. This cultivar originated in Australia in 1868 from a chance seedling propagated by Maria Ann Smith (1799–1870), from whom comes the name. Granny Smith apples are crisp, juicy, tart apples which are often used for cooking, especially in salads because the slices do not brown as quickly as other varieties.
