18세기 영국 여성 인권주의자인 메리 울스톤크래프트(Mary Wollstonecraft) 의 유일하게 완성한 아동문학작품인 "실생활에서의 새로운 이야기들" (Original Stories from Real Life, 오리지널 스토리즈 프럼 리얼 라이프)의 권두화의 스케치입니다. 이 책은 처음에는 1788년 에 조셉 존슨엔 의해 처음으로 출간되었으며, 윌리엄 블래이크(William Blake) 가  자신이 직접 그린 삽화를 기반으로 출판한 두번째 판은 1791년에 발매되었으며, 25여년동안 인쇄되었습니다. 이 책은 어머니 교사(marternal teacher) 인 매슨 부인(Mrs. Mason)이 자신의 두 어린 여자 아이들에게 일련의 교훈적인 이야기(didactic tales)를 하는 틀 이야기(액자 소설, frame story) 들에서 시작됩니다. 울스톤크래프트는 여성의 교육과 중산층의 이데올로기를 촉진하기 위해 당시 급성장(the then burgeoning) 하는 아동문학 장르를 채택했습니다. 그녀는 18세기 당시 널리 채택되지 않았던, 여성이 어려서부터 적절히 배웠다면, 이성적인 성인으로 인정해달라는 주장을 했습니다.

The sketch for the frontispiece to Original Stories from Real Life, the only complete work of children's literature by 18th-century British feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. The book was first published by Joseph Johnson in 1788; a second, illustrated edition, with engravings by William Blake based on his own drawings, was released in 1791 and remained in print for around a quarter of a century. The book begins with a frame story, which sketches out the education of two young girls by their maternal teacher Mrs. Mason, followed by a series of didactic tales. Wollstonecraft employed the then burgeoning genre of children's literature to promote the education of women and an emerging middle-class ideology. She argued that women would be able to become rational adults if they were educated properly as children, which was not a widely-held belief in the 18th century.
