One stalk of broccoli and the cross-section of another. Broccoli is one of a number of vegetable cultivars of the species Brassica oleracea, which also includes cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts and cabbage. Broccoli is available in several cultivars itself, the most familiar being Calabrese (shown here).
