기도와 페 그리고 공기의 움직임을 중재하는 호흡근육으로 구성된 인간 호흡기계의 도식도(다이어그램)입니다. 폐의 폐포기내에서 산소와 이산화탄소의 움직임이 혈액의 기체 상태상의 확산으로 수동적으로 교환되어 이루어집니다. 따라서 호흡기계는 혈액의 산소화를 이산화탄소와 혈액순환에서 나오는 다른 신진대사 폐기물들의 제거와 함께 수용하여 처리합니다.

A diagram of the human respiratory system, which consists of the airways, the lungs, and the respiratory muscles that mediate the movement of air into and out of the body. Within the alveolar system of the lungs, molecules of oxygen and carbon dioxide are passively exchanged, by diffusion, between the gaseous environment and the blood. Thus, the respiratory system facilitates oxygenation of the blood with a concomitant removal of carbon dioxide and other gaseous metabolic wastes from the circulation.
